Because to its unique appearance and low maintenance, the Chinese money plant has gained popular in recent years. So, innovative displays in homes, offices, and public venues employ it.

Chinese money plants and other indoor plants need creative arrangements to become room center pieces. Incorporating the plant into a bigger design concept or exhibit can spark conversation and provide visual appeal to a drab space. Creative displays can also showcase the Chinese money plant’s spherical leaves and propensity to produce plantlets or “babies” on its stems.

1. Hanging Baskets

Materials Needed

  • A hanging basket (either plastic or woven)
  • Sphagnum moss or coir liner
  • Potting soil
  • Chinese money plant
  • Scissors or pruning shears
  • Optional: decorative items such as moss, twine, or beads

Chinese Money Plant Hanging Basket Instructions

Step 1: The Chinese money plant needs to be kept in a hanging basket. It needs to have drainage holes on the bottom and be large enough to hold the plant.

Step 2: Insert sphagnum moss or a coir liner into the bottom of the basket. This will keep dirt from drying out and prevent it from sliding out of the bottom.

Step 3: Put some potting soil in the basket, but leave some room in the middle for the plant.

Step 4: Loosen the roots of the Chinese money plant and carefully remove it from the old pot. Plant it in the middle of the basket and make sure it is at the same level as it was in its last container.

Step 5: If there are any empty spaces around the plant, fill them with more potting soil and press it down gently to compact it.

Step 6: Carefully water the plant without drowning it. The bottom of the basket should be allowed to drain any excess water.

Step 7: You could add some moss, twine, or beads to the basket if you wanted to.

Step 8: Position the basket where it will be out of the way of predators and direct sunlight.

Tips and Tricks

  • To avoid the basket breaking under the weight of the plant, use one that has a strong chain or hanger.
  • If you want to grow plants indoors, you need to use potting soil.
  • Overwatering can cause root rot, so be careful not to drown the plant.
  • The best results will be achieved if you hang the basket somewhere that gets lots of bright, indirect light.
  • You should turn the basket occasionally so that the plant gets light from all directions and doesn’t grow crooked.

Materials Needed

  • Wall planter (such as a pocket planter or mounted planter)
  • Potting soil
  • Chinese money plant
  • Scissors or pruning shears
  • Optional: decorative items such as rocks or moss

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Choose a wall planter that can accommodate your Chinese money plant. This may take the form of a pocket planter that hangs from the wall or a mounted planter that is permanently affixed to the wall.

Step 2: Don’t overfill the planter; you want to have enough area to set the plant in the middle.

Step 3: Loosen the roots of the Chinese money plant and carefully remove it from the old pot. Plant it in the middle of the planter and at the same depth as it was in its old pot.

Step 4: If there are any empty spaces around the plant, fill them with more potting soil and press it down gently to compact it.

Step 5: Carefully water the plant without drowning it. The bottom of the planter should be allowed to drain any surplus water.

Step 6: You can embellish the planter with pebbles and moss if you like.

Step 7: Put the planter in a safe and shaded spot to hang it up.

Tips and Tricks

  • To avoid standing water, select a planter made for use indoors and equipped with proper drainage.
  • If you want to grow plants indoors, you need to use potting soil.
  • Overwatering can cause root rot, so be careful not to drown the plant.
  • The best results will be achieved if you hang the planter where it will be exposed to bright indirect light.
  • You may make a really impressive show by clustering many wall planters together.

3. Terrariums

Materials Needed

  • Glass container (such as a jar or bowl)
  • Gravel or pebbles
  • Activated charcoal
  • Potting soil
  • Chinese money plant
  • Scissors or pruning shears
  • Optional: decorative items such as moss or small figurines

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Your Chinese money plant should be kept in a clear glass vase. It needs to be see-through and spacious for convenience’s sake.

Step 2: Put some gravel or pebbles in the container’s base. We may expect better drainage as a result of this, with less standing water being a side effect.

Step 3: On top of the gravel, spread some activated charcoal. This will prevent the soil from becoming soggy by soaking up the surplus moisture.

Step 4: Planting soil should be spread over the activated charcoal. It needs to be dug deep enough to accommodate the Chinese money plant.

Step 5: Loosen the roots of the Chinese money plant and carefully remove it from the old pot. Plant it in the middle of the pot, making sure it’s at the same depth it was before.

Step 6: If there are any empty spaces around the plant, fill them with more potting soil and press it down gently to compact it.

Step 7: Add moss or figurines to the pot to decorate it if you like.

Step 8: Carefully water the plant without drowning it. Drain any surplus liquid from the bottom of the container.

Step 9: Set the pot where it will be exposed to indirect, bright light.

Tips and Tricks

  • Choose for a glass pot with a wide mouth that will accommodate the plant’s eventual size.
  • If you want to grow plants indoors, you need to use potting soil.
  • Overwatering can cause root rot, so be careful not to drown the plant.
  • Add a covering of moss to the soil to help it retain moisture and give the garden a more natural appearance.
  • Miniature embellishments should be used sparingly, as too many can obscure the plant’s view and crowd the container.

Materials Needed

  • Container or bowl for the water garden
  • Gravel or pebbles
  • Water plants such as water lettuce or water hyacinth
  • Chinese money plant
  • Aquarium net or mesh bag
  • Optional: decorative items such as rocks or floating candles

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Choose out a bowl or container that will do for your aquatic plant ecosystem. It needs to be big enough to hold the Chinese money plant and additional water plants you want to add.

Step 2: Put some gravel or pebbles in the container’s base. This will aid in enhancing drainage and avoiding the mingling of dirt and water.

Step 3: To care for your Chinese money plant, place it in a mesh bag or aquarium net. This will help keep the plant enclosed and prevent any soil from contaminating the water.

Step 4: Fill up the container with water until it’s about halfway full.

Step 5: Make sure the Chinese money plant is not moving around when you place the net or bag enclosing it into the container.

Step 6: Plants that thrive in water, such water lettuce and water hyacinth, should be added to the pot. They will aid in cleaning up the water and making it suitable for the Chinese money plant to flourish in.

Step 7: Put in some rocks or floating candles if you’d like.

Step 8: Put the water garden somewhere that gets lots of light but not direct sunlight.

Tips and Tricks

  • The Chinese money plant and other water plants will need a deep container.
  • Plants that can survive in the same conditions as Chinese money plants should be used.
  • For the sake of your plants’ well-being, you should frequently replace the water in the container to avoid the growth of algae.
  • If your water contains any chemicals or other contaminants, you may want to treat it or condition it.
  • Be wary of introducing anything that could potentially alter water quality or increase maintenance needs.

Materials Needed

  • Macrame cord or string
  • Scissors
  • Chinese money plant
  • Potting soil
  • S-hook or ring

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Keep in mind that the length of the macrame cord or string will decide the final height of the hanger, and cut six sections to the necessary length. As a rule of thumb, four feet is a fair length.

Step 2: Make a loop at the top of the folded cords with a knot, S-hook, or ring. The hook will be attached here.

Step 3: Separate the cords in thirds and tie a knot 6 inches down from the top loop.

Step 4: Next, tie another knot about an inch below the first one, using a new set of cords and making sure each cord is paired with a different cord from the first knot.

Step 5: In order to make the hanger as long as you like, simply repeat step 4. You can use the resulting knots to secure the potted plant.

Step 6: Hang the Chinese money plant from the macramé by placing it in a pot of potting soil.

Step 7: It’s important to readjust the knots to make sure the plant is stable and at the right height.

Step 8: The macrame hanger should be hung where it will be bathed in strong, indirect light.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use a strong string or cord that can hold the potted plant’s weight.
  • Create a one-of-a-kind look for your macrame hanger by trying out a variety of knotting techniques.
  • Caution should be taken when watering a plant suspended from a macrame hanger, since any dripping water could potentially damage the floor or nearby furniture.
  • In order to keep the plant stable and upright, the knots should be adjusted on a regular basis.
  • Enhance the macrame hanger’s aesthetic value by including embellishments like beads and tassels.
