Mississippi may be known as the birthplace of Elvis Presley, but there’s much more to the state than meets the eye. You may want to find land in Mississippi if you’re looking for a place with hospitality, charm, and good home cooking. In fact, if the land is what you’re after, there is so much undeveloped land. Most of it is heavily forested, except the half-million acres of Mississippi Delta that produces cotton.

The Rich History of Mississippi 

In the early 1800s, Mississippi was the most prominent cotton-growing location. When the delta was cleared for the cotton plantations, the boom of the profitable crop made Mississippi the 5th wealthiest state during the antebellum period.

 Though the Mississippi Delta still produces cotton, you are much more likely to find farmers harvesting catfish. Catfish has replaced cotton as Mississippi’s largest producer. If you’re a fisherman or woman at heart, the catfish population may be enough reason to look for Mississippi land for sale. 

It’s no surprise that fishing is good in Mississippi. The state has a subtropical climate with high humidity. The summers are hot, humid, and very long. In comparison, the winters are short and mild. If you’re looking for a place to cool off, Mississippi is not for you.

Culture

Though Mississippi never became profitable in the way of producing material goods, the state made up for it by giving us some of the biggest names in pop culture. Mississippi was responsible for creating a whole genre of music; blues. The man regarded as the “Father of Country Music,” Jimmie Rodgers, was born in Mississippi. Other famous Mississippians include:

Fun Facts About Mississippi

If you are interested in wildlife, it may please you to know that Mississippi’s Jackson County is home to one of the rarest species of crane. This unique bird is called the Mississippi Sandhill Crane. One oxymoron of a fun fact about Mississippi is that Issaquena County, the smallest county in the state, is home to Cottonwood Plantation. Cottonwood is the largest plantation in the world.  

Mississippi is a beautiful southern state that has a lot to offer. The residents are very friendly and are usually always up for a good conversation. The cost of living is on the lower side when compared to other states in the United States. Besides the excellent fishing, barbeque is also plentiful in Mississippi.
